My Great Grandfather
« on: Thursday 28 August 14 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I recently started tracing my family history. My great grandfather, Albert Edward Brown, has always been a mystery to me as he was from Nottingham and my great grandmother, Roseanne McCann, was from Ireland. They married here in Dublin in February 1909 and then I presume moved to Nottingham as my grandfather was born there in November of 1909. However, at some point she returned to Dublin but no one here knows when or why.

I have tried to find out when Albert died but the death cert I ordered I'm not sure if it is correct as it lists his wife as a G Brown. I know in the 1911 census Albert was living with his mother Harriett in 22-24 Handel Street, Nottingham with no wife listed. He was also listed as a army pensioner aged 23.

I would be so grateful if anyone could tell me when Albert died or if he re-married and possibly when Harriett died.

Also I have attached a photo of Albert in his uniform. I would love to know what area of the British armed forces he was with. We always assumed he was in Ireland working and that's where he met Roseanne but I have nothing to confirm or deny this old family rumour.

Thanks all, Hazel

Oh I never even thought of that. Thanks.
I only have a letter from the General Register Office that Roseanne received at a much later date to say that they were married at that time but I don't actually have the marriage certificate.
I will head into the National Archive and see can I dig it up.
Thanks so much for your help.

Oh wow thank you so much. I can't believe how much information you found out.
My dad even went to Nottingham a few years back and he couldn't find out much but he didn't really know what he was looking for.
This is fantastic. Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.  :)
