Higgins family
« on: Friday 29 August 14 11:28 BST (UK) »
I am having great difficulties with my grandmother's family of Higgins.
George Higgins born 1810 at Bradford Abbas in Dorset married Jane Paul

Son George born 1837 married Charlotte Ring on the 26/2/1863 in Bradford Abbas.

It appears that they had a number of children born at Bradford Abbas or Tatworth in Somerset.

These include
George born 1859 and believe he killed himself and another in Tredegar in 1889. But I have no further information apart from the newspaper report which is how I learnt about him

Charles Paul born about 1841 and believed to have drown sometime.
Bessie died 1942
Eliza Ann
William Frederick died 1871
Mary Jane bap 1844
Ellen Augusta died 1879
James Edward
William
Jane bap 1858
John bapt 1861?

George born 1837 was a policeman at Chard and then Curry Rivel in Somerset before retiring to Trent in Dorset neat Bradford Abbas where he was born.

Very many thanks. I am most interested in George jnr's son who I knew nothing about until I read a newspaper of a murder and suicide in Tredegar in 1889. It stated that George was the eldest child of George the policeman at Tatworth. He was suppose to be 30 or 28. Any information about him would be fantastic.

I have been told that another son Charles Paul drowned but I no of no further details.
Many thanks

Mark

With the children all being born in Somerset, I wonder if he was on a temporary assignment in South Wales in 1861?

I wonder if there were troubles in Wales at that time. I also believe a new port was being built at Penarth for coal. It was most embarrassing for George the policeman to have HIS SON AS A murderer who also killed himself. Also policeman's George's brother William was the Chief Constable of Neath and it would no doubt have caused him some uncomfortable moments. It may well have been that he was instrumental in finding work for his brother in the police

Many thanks

Mark
