Mary Watson Walker born 31 Aug. 1836 Died 23 Sept. 1896
« on: Sunday 31 August 14 00:46 BST (UK) »
I bought a bible in the seventy's. this was when I was in Germany. On the death page lists three sons that died in Tchi Turkey, and a daughter that died in Condorant. All died in 1800 hundreds. Same with Mary. Does anyone have any information about this family. I think this must have been a military family. Thank You.

Hi Robstr1108

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

It would be wonderful to be able to trace the people from the bible!

Were the names of the sons & daughter noted? Or anything else?

Condorant - any idea where that is?   There is a Condorrat in Dunmbartonshire, Scotland

Cheers

Have so far lost the trail after 1861…..except that Scotland's People indexes the following singular entry, who seems like it could the daughter who died  as recorded in the Bible:

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Agnes WALKER, age 4 (born abt 1859)
Death registered Cumberbauld, Dunbartonshire, 1863

Welcome to Rootschat.

The three sons' deaths were all registered with the British consul at Kustendji (aka Kustendje or Constanza, then in the Ottoman Empire but now known as Constanta in modern Romania).  It is a historically important Black Sea port.

You can order a death certificate for one or more of them to discover more information by using index details obtainable on Findmypast to complete the GRO's overseas events form.  NB the consular registrations are civilian rather than military records so (consistent with what Ambly has found) there is no reason at the moment to think the family was a military one.  There would have been many commercial opportunities in the Ottoman Empire at that time.
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

There is also a consular death registration for Mary Walker registered 1896-1900 at Galatz, a River Danube port then under Ottoman rule but now known as Galati in modern Romania.

Also at Galatz is a consular death registration for Alexander Walker (the name of Mary's husband as found by Ambly), 1901-1905.
