Looking for Thomas Hides in 1861
« on: Monday 08 September 14 07:40 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please shed the light on where my ancestor was at the age of 23 in 1861.
Thomas Hides

Born in 1838 to Brownlow and Mary Hides,
Baptised at Caenby the same year,
1841 - Listed in the Caenby Census
1851 - Listed in the Caenby Census
1861 - HELP PLEASE
1864 - Married Susannah Pacey at Caenby
1871 - Listed in the Caenby Census
1879 - Present at mothers death (Mary) in Glentham
1881 - Listed in the Glentham Census
1885 - Present at fathers death (Brownlow) in Glentham
1891 - Listed in the Bigby Census
1901 - Listed in the Legsby Census
1911 - Listed in the East Torrington Legsby Census
1925 - Death registered at Caistor. It was stated on the death certificates that both parents (Brownlow and Mary) died at Glentham. They were both registered in Caistor.

All Lincolnshire btw.

I have downloaded the complete 1861 census for both Caenby and Glentham and scrutinized every name to no avail.

Many thanks in advance as usual,
Dean

Hello,
With regard to 1861 - perhaps the family were just omitted for some reason. Brownlow is there by himself. His neighbours are the same family as in 1871.

1861 was previous to his marriage so he wouldnt have a family of his own yet. Im pressuming he' a boarder/visitor or away at work somewhere on census night.  Susannah Pacey whom he married in 1864 was born in Nettleham.  On the marriage record it states that Susannahs parish is Glentham, but Thomas' s was Caenby.

Yes, I read that in your summary.
My point is that he is with his parents in 1851 and 1871. His father is alone in 1861 so mother and siblings also seem to be missing off the census unless you have them elsewhere.

Is Mary visiting daughter Elizabeth in Sheffield?
Do you have Edward in 1861 - is he still alive?

as money permits ill be getting all brownlow and marys kids death certificates.  they had about 4 kids that died at early ages. makes me wonder why. brownlow was a tailor master and didnt assume they were poor enough not to be able to nourish their kids enough.

Easther Charlotte Hides marries in Ecclesall B district in Dec 1864 so makes you wonder if more of the family were in that area in 1861 including Thomas.

I can't see her in 1861 to see if Thomas was with her.
