*COMPLETED* 1930 Redcar: who lived in 1 Cedar Grove?
« on: Saturday 27 September 14 18:13 BST (UK) »
I have been given a very good photo of a young woman called Jan (?Janice) who was living in 1 Cedar Grove in Redcar. She gave it to my grandfather when he emigrated to Detroit in May 1930. I deduce that she must have been his lady friend.

Can anyone tell me who was living in that house at that time?

If anyone on the forum is related to this lady I will gladly pass on the photo to them.

Thank you for your help!

Hello Eamann,   While at Teesside Archives today ( 8/10/14 ).  I looked up the Redcar Electoral Roll for 1930. Living at 1 Cedar Grove was a George Addison Barnes, Nora Irene Barnes,
and a   JANET TILSTONE.     Hope this helps.

 Regards Eddie.

Thank you VERY, VERY much, Eddie! It was extremely kind of you to do that look-up for me. I am very grateful!

I don't suppose I will ever find out for sure what the relationship was between my grandfather and Janet, but at least now I know her name.

Perhaps one day one of her descendants will be happy to reclaim her photo. (The photo was sent to me by a recently discovered "cousin" in America who had inherited the photos of my grandfather's American wife.)

I suspect that Janet was probably a boarder with the Barnes. My grandfather was boarding in 2 Lime Road, just a few minutes walk away.

Once again, many thanks!
