Dating a Demobilization Ration Book
« on: Wednesday 08 October 14 21:38 BST (UK) »
The date stamp on the attached Demobilization Ration Book is faded and unreadable. Can anyone advise/confirm if it relates to the First World War?  It indicates that the book was issued to a serviceman leaving the Forces but there is no indication of date other than the faded stamp on the front. Thank you.

Thanks for the responses. My best guess based on the pen and ink notation was also 31/1/19 but it could also be 29. Also, in the absence of being able to read the date stamp I'm not sure how accurate/relevant the penned notation may be. I will check the web to see the periods of rationing during the World Wars and if anyone knows is this book is typical of World War One or Two?

It's 1919. Google Demobilization Ration Book and look at Google Images. There's always another one out there!

It's a 1919, WW1, Demob ration book! ;D

If you do a google search for Demob Ration Book, one of the first images shown is identical to yours, and clearly has a date of 1919.

Hi Again: Thanks to everyone who responded. Having looked on line as advised the book is definitely a World War One example and is issued in the name of my grandfather. This will spur me to further research as I have no information about his service in the war. Again many thanks to ALL.
