Help finding a marriage.
« on: Friday 01 July 05 14:13 BST (UK) »
This is nearly impossible.I need help finding where and when my Grandparents were married. His name was George Birkett .Born 1872 Kirton Lincolnshire. In the 1891 census he lived in East Markham. My Grandmother was Blanche Ellen Cole. She was born in Ireland but 1881 she was in Lincoln.1891she was in St Mary Le Wigford.
I know they lived in Lower Broughton Lancashire 1901. Please can anyone help.

Hello .Thanks for the reply.I have found that one before. The trouble is - the page and volume puts her with Foster Watson. Ive found A page and volume for George Birkett But according to the G R O is the wrong George Birkett.I suppose she could have been married twice or not at all. ??? .

You may already have done this - but do you have the birth cert of their daughter. This may give a clue as to other surnames. I know they put maiden name on but not sure about former names.

Where have you checked for marriage refs- on 1837 online?

This all seems a bit  odd.

Oh, and, sorry - welcome to Rootschat :)

Have looked for a Foster Watson and Blanche on 1901 to eliminate them but can only see a Foster and Ellen Watson :-\

If you could tell me where you found that ref for George Birkett and it wasn't on 1837online I will look for you on there - marriage must be round about the time of daughter's birth.

Hello Again. I was doing so well till I tried to find the wedding.I tried to trace George Birkett through 1837 and freebmd as well as every thing else. I got the District was Newark Volume 7b Page 825. On the same page was Ada Salmons. That was 1898.When I sent for marriage certificate ,I was told I had the wrong man. His fathers name was not Charles. They give me a refund
On my mothers Birth Certificate it states------Father-George Birkett----Mother-Blanche Ellen Birkett formerly Cole.District Salford I think  the Parish is ST CLEMENTS.

Did the GRO people tell you who the bride was on this certificate?? I'm getting a bit confused here.

You can't just rely on the father's name or what the GRO office tells you or what name is written on the same page.  You have to see the certificate, really.

Did they say the bride was Ada???

The trouble is - the page and volume puts her with Foster Watson.

Having looked on freebmd - there are only two entries on that reference - there should be two grooms and two brides - so if you looked here could you have seen the groom from the other marriage, Blanche's husband hasn't yet been transcribed on?

On Blanche Ellens freebmd page-783 Volume 7.There are just two names, the other one being   Foster Watson.District Lincoln. On Georges there are four names. George, Ada Salmons,Samuel   Mee, Martha Savage.1898. As she was born in Ireland 1877, I wonder if they went over there to get married. Im sorry to confuse every one.
