Baptism look up - Foleshill
« on: Friday 24 October 14 21:56 BST (UK) »
Hoping that someone could kindly see if there's a baptism record for John BYFIELD b.1841 Foleshill.  I have his parents as William & Charlotte (nee CHAPLIN), but I'm not sure if that's correct.  I am also unable to find him in the 1851 & 1861 Census.

Thank you :-)

The only birth on freebmd was in 1842 and was in the wrong registration district for somebody b Foleshill.

The 1842 birth links to parents Thomas & Rebecca in 1851

Who did your John Byfield marry?  Do you have his marriage cert confirming his father was called William?  What was Williams occupation on the marriage cert

There's a John Byfield who married Emma Eliza Green at Bordesley St Andrew on 26 Dec 1868, his father is listed as Thomas a fitter.

As CaroleW has said, John and his father can be found in Aston on the 1851 and 1861 Census, along with his mother Rebecca and siblings.  On the 1861 Census they are listed at Garrison Lane, Bordesley, which is the same address as on the marriage.  Professions vary between 1861 Census and 1868 marriage, but then John's birthplace does too.  He is listed as born Meriden on the 1851 Census, along with his siblings, but Aston on the 1861 Census (as are his siblings).  There is no sign of a baptism in Meriden.  Ancestry trees suggest he was the son of Thomas and Rebecca nee Green and there are a number of baptisms to a Thomas and Rebecca Byfield from 1826 at Birmingham St Philip, but not one for John.

I can't see any children to a William and Charlotte Byfield, although there is a marriage of a William Byfield and Charlotte Chaplin at Exhall in 1832.  No sign of them on the census.

Did your John marry Emma Eliza Green?

1871 shows wife as Elizabeth and eldest child 5yrs old so I think he is the 1865 marriage in Foleshill to Elizabeth Jaques

Thanks both, much appreciated.

I had come across Thomas b. Berkswell 1794 and Rebecca (nee GREEN) b. Meriden c 1801- I had initially added them to my tree, but then had doubts as I assumed that John's parents were more likely to be from Foleshill - but if he wasn't actually born at Foleshill then that puts a different light on it.

John married Elizabeth Jaques (b. Polesworth 1843), but I don't have the marriage certificate to confirm that William was his father.  He doesn't appear as an infant in the 1841 Census  record for William & Charlotte and I haven't got the 1851 return to see if he's there.

Exhall falls under Foleshill Registration District.  Unfortunately the marriage doesn't appear on ancestry so you would need to get the marriage certificate to confirm your John's father's name and profession.

Hi

Think that the death of William maybe correct. In 1850 a Charlotte Byfield marries in Coventry to one of these four men

William Chaplin
Edwin Franks
Joseph Underhill
Edward Trepess

The marriage took place August 1850 at St Michaels Coventry

Charlotte Byfield (widow) married William Chaplin (widower)
Grooms father: William Chaplin~ weaver
Brides father: Joseph Chaplin ~ weaver

The copy on Anc* is badly marked and their names can't be made out, so had to look for one of the other grooms ~ Edward Trepess is on the same page.

Still cant find her on 1851 census !
