Passenger List for the Ben Lomond, Arrived 1863
« on: Thursday 30 October 14 08:15 GMT (UK) »
I have been searching to find the Passenger List for the Ben Lomond, which arrived in Port Chalmers in January 1863, but cannot seem to find it.  I'm annoyed with myself because I have recorded that my 2 x Great Grandmother was a passenger on board, but I cannot find where I would (should?) have written down the source for that information.

I've looked in all the usual places, but to no avail.  Any help most appreciated.

Liggins, Liggons, Liggens (and variants) - Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire & New Zealand
Padman (family very much involved in early Wesleyan Church) - England, Australia and New Zealand
Oxley - England, Australia and New Zealand

Thank you for that.  Unfortunately it only gives the names of Cabin Passengers, and there were a lot more on board.

I see that the Ben Lomond arrived via Melbourne. ;) This suggests a solution.

Can you provide us with the passenger's name, please?

I like the way you think, lol.  Passengers name is Ann or Anne Brady, and she may have been travelling with a brother.

Hmmm, no luck in my search, I'm sorry.

The only possibles were James, John, William and Margaret BRADY, who arrived at Port Chalmers on 6 February 1863 aboard the City of Melbourne via Melbourne.

A soundex name search didn't bring up any references to any passengers on the Ben Lomond either.

Hi Tikva,

Re the above, I searched for 'brady' from 1860-1865 without finding any mention of the Ben Lomond.

Have you considered contacting Toitū Otago Settlers Museum for information?
They have excellent resources for early emigration to Otago.

Hi...I have been searching for a full passenger list for the Ben Lomond (arrived in NZ in 1863). I am looking for two sisters with the surname Neilson or Nelson....but I can't find a full list. Any help is appreciated.
