The Wallis or Wallace family of Bishops Tachbrook, Warwickshire.
« on: Sunday 02 November 14 08:09 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone knowledge of ht eabove family.
Edward Wallis was born 1786 at ?
Martha Wallis was born 1781 ?
Sons Edward and John born 1821.
John later used the name John Wallace and moved to Tavistock, Devon and Clutton Somerset. In the censuses he gave his place of birth as Bishops Tachbrook, Warwickshire.
In the 1841 census all the family states they were not from Warwickshire?
Any thoughts of where they came from and waht happened to Edward and Martha.

In the 1841 census the family are living at Asps and Edward is a gamekeeper.

Edward Wallis b abt 1781 , residence Asps , buried 11 Oct 1841 St Nicholas , Warwick

Edward and Martha appear to have had a daughter :

Amelia Wallis 28 Jul 1821 St Nicholas , Warwick , dau Edward Wallis , gamekeeper , and Martha of Asps.

I also spotted this :

John Wallis 27 Aug 1819 at Thorner St Peter , Yorkshire , son of Edward Wallis , gamekeeper , and Martha of Thorner.

If this is the right John Wallis the family had moved to Warwick by 1821 when he would have been  2 years old - he probably wouldn't have known that he was born in Yorkshire.

Sarah Wallis 24 Nov 1816 Thorner , St Peter , Edward , gamekeeper , and Martha of Thorner , Little-Moor.

I can't spot a baptism for young Edward yet.

This looks like the marriage of John Wallis :

John Wallis , full , bach , gamekeeper , of Bridge End , Edward Joseph Wallis , gamekeeper
Elizabeth Ann Bennett , full , sp, of Bridge End , Henry Bennett , farmer

4 July 1844 St Nicholas , Warwick

Possible burial for Martha Wallis :

Martha Wallis of Bridge End aged 74 4 Mar 1850 St Nicholas , Warwick

Here's another interesting marriage at St Nicholas , Warwick :

Thomas Barnett , full , bach , shoemaker of Bridge End
Clementina  Arkesden , full , WID , of Bridge End , Edward WALLIS gamekeeper

married 29 Apr 1846.

Baptism for Clementina Wallis :

4 Sep 1814 Bourn , Cambridge , parents Edward and Martha

Clementina Wallis is a fairly unusual name so I think the above is probably correct . Looks like your Wallises moved around a fair bit !

Marriage for Edward Wallis :

Edward Wallis full, bach , gamekeeper , Bradford Street , Edward Joseph Wallis , gamekeeper
Maria Gould full, sp , Alcester Street , George Gould, farmer
21 Jul 1851 Birmingham , St Thomas

If the couple can be located on the census it may be possible to discover Edward's birthplace.

I wondered about this too , but I can't find any records giving this Edward's occupation . It's certainly brightened up a wet day here !
