William Youatt, veterinary surgeon
« on: Monday 03 November 14 12:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello fellow Rootschatters,
I'm hoping someone can help me trace the baptisms of the children of William Youatt and his wife Mary, née Payne. They married in Chichester in 1803, where he was a non conformist minister until 1812. The family then moved to London, where William became a partner to Delabere Blaine, the vet. I know this couple had at least two daughters, but have no details of them. It is highly likely they were born in Sussex, but I have a first hand source that tells me they were not baptised until their twenties, as their father did not believe in child baptisms.
Any information would be much appreciated.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thank you so much for that. I'm not sure the two with Jones as a middle name belong to the same family, unless William remarried. According to my source, at least some children were born pre1812.
Thanks once again.

It is probably worth noting, however, with the older baptisms.

Elizabeth Youatt b 27 Apr 1812 , bap 17 Jun 1843 at Old St Pancras , parents William Youatt Veterinary surgeon and Keziah Jones of Osnaburgh Place.

I couldn't find this on familysearch so this is from the LMA collection on Ay.
It certainly seems he was married more than once and as he was born around 1777 it's not perhaps surprising .

You have just rung a bell for me. I'm going to go back through my notes, because I am sure there is a reference to him having children with another woman, as his wife was unable to. Thank you so much for the info on the daughters. Interesting Fanny was baptised after he wedding.
Fanny, or Frances, was the middle name of William's sister, my direct ancestor.

This is getting intriguing !

1841 census

Osnaburgh Place , St Pancras

William Youatt 65 Vet.Surgeon
Mary Youatt 65
Mary Youatt 25
Elizabeth Youatt 23
Ann Youatt 20
Maria Youatt 15
Kensel Jones 50 ( this must be Keziah )

The only death I can find for Mary Youatt is in 1847

Mary Youatt aged about 83 buried 29 Jun 1847 , St Pancras Chapel

It begins to look like they had rather unusual living arrangements .
