29.7.1917 L/ Cpl Thomas Johnston Age 37. No 71113 RAMC
My great grandfather L/Cpl Thomas Johnston died in Mesopotamia in 1917, now Iraq. He died in the 16th Casualty Clearing Station from heat stroke as a result of field operations. He was buried in Bagdad (North Gate) War Cemetery. He originally enlisted in the Kings Royal Rifles in May 1915 and was transferred to the RAMC in September 1915. He sailed on the MS Aquitania on 8.10.1915 and disembarked 26.12.1915 but I am not sure where, possibly with the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force.
