Hi David,

I suppose that I'm trying to be as conclusive as possibe, bearing in mind we are about 300 years on, as to which Mary Day married Charles Lyddell in 1729.

I am hoping that there might be a small clue or two that I may be able to pick up on, that would allow me to identify between Mary, daughter of John and Martha or Mary, daughter of John and Ruth or neither... ;D

Thank you.

I'm looking at the Sharnbrook PR transcript. While I can find baptism of Mary Day on 13 Jan 1706/07 at Sharnbrook to John and Ruth Day, labourer, at same time as her sister Martha (although it don't say twin) I cannot find baptism of other Mary Day on 13 Jan 1705/06 at Sharnbrook to John and Martha Day. What is your source of this 2nd baptism?.

Hi John,

My source for the second baptism is the IGI, John.

Interesting that batch has in it a burial on 13 Feb 1706 of Mary Day, daughter of John & Ruth Day..... which is incorrect as the PR has this as the burial of Martha, daughter of John & Ruth Day on 13 Feb 1706/07...... don't believe everything you find on Family Search... !

So if we can dispense with the fictional Mary daughter of John & Martha Day the only Mary Day at Sharnbrook is daughter of John & Ruth Day, labourer baptised 13 Jan 1705/6 along with sister Martha, who was buried 13 Feb 1706/7. A subsequent Martha was baptised 17 Feb 1708/09. John & Ruth also baptised Sarah 5 Aug 1705 (who may have married William Ward at Sharnbrook on 3 Jan 1725/26) and Oliver on 2 May 1711 (who may have been buried 21 Jan 1779) and James sometime between April & August 1718.

But who knows if she's the one who married Charles Lyddell in 1729 ?

Regards John

I don't know if it's relevant or ties in at all, but I have Day ancestors just over the border into Northamptonshire (Higham Ferrers way).

Henry Day (c. 1540 - 1601 or 1611) and his wife Mary Day (c. 1540 - 1587)

next generation: Francis Day (1569 - 1617)

next generation: Hewen Day 1615 - 1695 and his wife Hannah Day (circa 1640 - 1684)

next generation: Hannah Day (b. 1666) who married Robert Freeman

The family drifted south into Bedfordshire, and is in Sharnbrook and Riseley a couple of generations later, so they may well be connected.

If you'd like more detail, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the full text of what I have about them.

Incidentally, "Hewen" is spelled no end of different ways (including one exasperated transcriber who eventually put "Heaven?"). I suspect that this was really Ieuan ...
