I am now piecing this together, but I have to admit that the third of those flickr items has me foxed.
Certainly happy with the marble plaque in Ebberston St Mary's to Revd John Ellis who died in 1848 as that fits perfectly. He was vicar in Hutton Buscel 1800 to 1813 and from then in Yedingham from 1832 until his death in 1848 (the RootsWeb date of 1851 is wrong). This also ties up well with the stained glass window on the pdf which is also dedicated to his memory in the church where he finished up, St John's in Yedingham.
The second flickr image is perfect for his son, John Ellis Jr, who was vicar of Ebberston until his death in 1870. I have found him on the censues for 1851 and 1861 with wife Hannah Elizabeth Ellis and his will from 1870. A quick search discovered that she was born Hannah Elizabeth
PEARSON in 1803 in Hutton Buscel.
Now the problem ...
Who is the John Ellis in the third flickr picture? It appears to be from St Mary's in Ebberston and if this is indeed
"Sacred to the memory of Jane, beloved wife of Rev John Ellis Jun, vicar of this Parish: on the 2nd day of Sep 184?? she calmly resigned her soul into the hands of her merciful creator." (which it clearly is!) then which John Ellis is he?
John Ellis (1771-1884) married and was survived by Frances (nee Routledge) of this there can be no doubt.
John Ellis (1803-1870) married Hannah Elizabeth Pearson 24th March 1845; this has to be true as I've found them in the censuses and proved it with his will.
So now I'm confused ...
UNLESS ...The date on that marble plaque is actually
1843 and not 1846 or 1848. A Jane Ellis DID indeed die in Pickering in the September Q of 1843. Could John Ellis have been a widower when he married Hannah in 1845?
Is there anybody out there close enough to go and have a look??
