Anglican Church Records on FamilySearch
« on: Sunday 09 November 14 02:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi
In case you haven't noticed Familysearch.org has published a partial index to the South African Anglican Church Records on their site. There are about 350,000 indexed names so very useful
Regards
Gillian

Very remarkable. I have one solitary birth in South Africa on my records so thought I would give the site a try. Bingo!!! Found it.

Record from Okeip Cemetery Grave Marker

Louisa Jane Rounsley, born 20 July 1877
Died 28 July 1877

Anglican Church Records on the new site

Daughter of Richard Samuel Rounsley and Johanna [Goldbach]
Baptism Record States born 20 July 1877 and baptized and died same day, 27 July 1877.
Mother's name should be Louisa Wilhelmina Goldbach. LWG's mother's name was Johanna.

One question for a South African expert. Where is Namaqualand, All Saints, parish church located? Surely they would not have travelled to Cape Town for the Baptism. Or did the Vicar travel to Okeip?

I had to modify my posting. After Richard Samuel Rounsley died his widow married Alfred James Loynes and their children are on the site too. Incredible!

Hi the church could be in the town of Springbok - I googled it and came up with a photo site that has pictures of the church http://au.fotolia.com/id/69631470

Thank you very much. The Parish Register is captioned  South Africa, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town, Namaqualand, St Augustine. Cape Town is 6 hours drive today to Springbok. Then Springbokfontein. No one would have their children baptized if they had to go that far in those days.

Hi
The Cape Town in the name  refers to the Diocese of Cape Town which covers a large area of the Western Cape.

Hello,    I appreciate this relates to a very posting concerning Church Records in South Africa.   I have noted details about Louise Jane Rounsley (born and died in 1877 at Namaqualand) the daughter of Richard Rounsley.     I also have records of another daughter, Veitje (born to Richard Rounsley and Veitje Beukes) supposedly born in 1873, but maybe a transcription error and it could have been 1878.   I have been unable to trace any further information about this child.   Any details would be much appreciated.  Many thanks.

If she died before the establishment of Statutory death records (1894) you may not find any records. Burial records are few and far between.

Dear Gillian,    Many thanks for your reply.    Unfortunately I cannot locate any details of Veitje's marriage or death neither in South Africa or elsewhere throughout the world.
