Urgent FindMyPast free weekend question on a marriage
« on: Sunday 09 November 14 09:30 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to get the marriage cert for the wedding of John Bernard Kyne to Caroline Pickett in Layston.

I have the details from familysearch:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N64G-V2W

And according to this:

https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Layston,_Hertfordshire

findmypast has the Layston Parish Register images.

But I can only find the banns in the findmypast search, not the marriage itself.

Since the marriage is 1853, I though I was in the era of "standard" parish records; certainly the familysearch transcription has information that is NOT in the banns.

Can anyone help?

If you look for Caroline in the Herts Banns (variation on Surname), you'll find that the groom's name is different in the iindex but same in the image.

There is also no marriage of that couple on Freebmd for that date.

If you check the details for the record set you will see that LAYSTON marriages only covers the years    1563-1836.

It's a faulty index;

John Bernard HYNE married Caroline Picket.

Where are you seeing the details of a record set? according to the family search info;

https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Layston,_Hertfordshire

FindMyPast has images and indexes for the marriages, 1563 - 1928.

Edit; found it;

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/hertfordshire-marriages---full-parish-list?_ga=1.96206876.1641452251.1415523836

Damn. Looks like the only image is on an IGI microfilm.

Yes - the transcription of "John Bernard Kyne" as "Wm Bernard" is (ahem) remarkable.

If you live more than 50 km from a familysearch (LDS) centre, you could apply for a free copy of the certificate.
(Or it could be 50 miles, I'm not sure  ??? )
