Thank you Keyboard, that is interesting   :)

It looks to me as though they are probably the same family.  None of the children appear to have been baptised but both marriages are C of E.

I finally found Christening records for the elder sisters of George, they were both born in London.  Both were Catholic.  So I think it’s safe to assume that the children from the 1st marriage were all Catholic.  Even though I’ve not found the record for George.

Hi,

I've found three Catholic baptisms in Portsmouth, including one for George  :)

St John's Cathedral, Portsmouth
Dedication:    St John the Evangelist
Denomination:  Roman Catholic

Helena Eleanor Elizabeth HANSON
Birth:  01 Aug 1858
Baptism:  25 Apr 1859
Helena Elizabetha HANSON
Daughter of  Georgii Henrici & Helena HANSOM
mmn:  DUNBAR
Patrinus fuit:  Henricus RILEY
Matrinus fuit:  Elizabetha O'CONNOR

Mary Jane HANSON
Born:  26 Nov 1860
Baptised:   19 Dec 1860
Maria Joanna HANSOM
Daughter of  Georgii Henrici & Eleanor HANSOM
mmn:  DUNBAR
Patrinus fuit:  Joannes ROWE
Matrinus fuit:  Maria ROWE

George Henry HANSON
Birth:  02 Dec 1862
Baptism:  28 Jan 1863
Georgius Henricus HANSOM
Son of  Georgii Henrici & Ellenae HANSOM
mmn:  DUNBAR
Patrinus fuit:  Michael SHERIDAN
Matrinus fuit:  Sarah Ann WALL

Looking at the images, the difference in spelling seems to be HANSON in the margin first column then HANSOM in the main body of writing.

Regards,
Daisy

Hi Daisy

Thank you very much for this information it confirms everything.

George Henry Senior has been confounding us for years.  He’s missing from early census, cannot get the name and profession of his father the same on wedding certificates and from 1861 to his death changes age on each census.

It would appear that I now have another wedding to look for somewhere in the London area in a Catholic Church, I already have the other wedding certificates.  Although knowing him he’s probably travelled of somewhere else for that.

So anyway thanks again for the information.

Nic
