Date for family photo
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 19:35 GMT (UK) »
I borrowed and copied this photo a few years ago.  It is mounted on thick (about 2mm) grey card with nothing on the reverse.  Family legend offers three possibilities as to who the woman could be - and I can't tell if the two youngest children are male or female.

Does the style of clothing narrow down a date range?
Roughly how old do the parents look?
Roughly how old is the eldest child?
Is the child on dad's lap definitely female or could it be male?
Could the mother be the female child (or the mother?) in the second picture?

I have had a look on free sites to date the photographer's studio, but without success.

Any help will be gratefully received!

Hi Phillip

I've had a quick look for your photographer with no success as yet but will try again tomorrow.  To me the parents look about 28 - 32.  The oldest child IMO looks about 8 and the baby on the father's lap looks to be a boy.

I think it's quite possible that is the mother in the second photo with her two youngest children i.e. the boy on the dad's lap and the baby, four or five years down the track (making her mid to late 30s  :-\).  They have very similar features, particularly the nose, in fact the more I look the more I think you have a match, but hopefully you will get other opinions
.

I'm sure the dating gurus will be along soon to give you a date for the photos themselves.

Cheers

While I was at it, I gave them a tidy.

Second one.  I know  you didn't ask for a clean up, I was just looking for something to do.  :)

Hallo, Caroline

Many thanks for the tidyups and your thoughts.  There is a strong resemblance between the women, but until I get a clue as to the photograph dates I can't tell if they are the same woman or mother and daughter.

All the best
Philip

I agree with Caz....Same lady and the second photo is of the two youngest Children..the photos I would guess at being Edwardian.

Oh, bother!  I was hoping the family picture would be c1900-1916 and the outdoor photo to be around 1880-85.

Just looked up the birth of the baby in the photograph and she was born 1895.
