information re Paul Shirley Drake
« on: Friday 14 November 14 18:35 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information regarding the first wife of Paul Shirley Drake (1886 - 1952). I believe he was married to Bessie M. Unknown around 1912 and they were divorced sometime between 1917 and 1920. They had 3 children; James, Raymond, and Bessie.

Paul Drake was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas city was listed as his home in census data, etc. until 1920.  However, he was in the U S Navy from 1901 to 1904 and 1917 to 1919 so he may have been located at some naval facility when he married.

The newspaper article about an annulment fits as he was a boarder in the home of his second wife in 1920 (census data).  any other information in the paper ?

Hi - where are these events likely to have taken place?  If England & Wales, have you had a look on FreeBMD for them?  With the dates you mention, the children's births should be indexed with mother's maiden name.

The Oregonian of May 1, 1920  reports that Paul S Drake is seeking an annulment of his marriage to Bessie M Drake as she had married him less than 6 months after her divorce from a previous husband.

I couldn't find anything more on this in the papers. But the 1913 marriage in Washington state seems a good fit. Link to the certificate on Ancestry: http://tinyurl.com/k9hnk2v
