Robert Green and Jannet Carruthers
« on: Thursday 20 November 14 16:50 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for information concerning the ancestors of my 4th great-grandparents, Robert Green and Jannet Carruthers.  Jennet's obituary was published in the Manchester Courier dated February 11, 1854:

On the 3rd inst., at her house in Hulme, aged 77 years, Mrs. Jannet Green, relict of the late Robert Green, Esq., of Deansgate, and sister of W. F. Carruthers, Esq., of the Dorment, near Dumfris.

Jannet Green was listed in the 1841 census on Percy Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, head of household, and born in Scotland, age 60.

Jannet Green was listed in the 1851 census again on Percy Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, head of household, born in Scotland, age 74.  She was employed as a Proprietor of Houses.

Robert was apparently dead before 1841 by his omission from the census.

Robert and Jannet had at least five children:  William, Alexander, Robert, Jennet, and Elizabeth.

I have seen other references between the Greens' and Carruthers'.  Robert and Jannet had a grand-daughter named Jannet Carruthers Green christened Sep. 30, 1821 in Manchester.  I found another  Robert Green married to a Henrietta Ryecroft with a daughter Janet Carruthers Greeen christened Aug. 13, 1826 in Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A possible connection as Dormont is mentioned:
Dormont Estate, Dalton, Lockerbie, Dumfries & Galloway
The estate has been in the continuous ownership of the Carruthers family since 1452 - the present encumbent representing the 13th generation. It is thought that the Carruthers family may be descendants of Cole Hen, King of Cumbria (or Old King Cole as he became known) because one of his sons Rhideris built a caer, or castle, near Ecclefechan. The caer of Rhideris later became Carruthers. The remains of the old castle can be seen on the farm of that name - Carruthers Farm. The land of Dormont was first granted to the Carruthers family by Robert the Bruce.
