John Fowler baptism
« on: Sunday 30 November 14 15:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

Specifically looking for a baptism for John Fowler to establish who is parents were.

He married Jane Prudham (plus variant spellings) in Egton 1837.

On the marriage cert, he was shown to be of 'Full Age', Jane was a 'minor'.

Father shown as John Fowler, Labourer.

John & Jane started a family and then moved to Canada in 1850.

I have them on all the relevant England & Canada censuses, please do not spend time on those.

In 1841 John is alleged to have been 'born in the county'.

Please do not spend time on Jane's family as we have all this.

Please do not spend time on the children, we have them all accounted for.

There are several family trees online with varying degrees of accuracy, once errors are found, they get copied on.

The only reference in all of the research to his place of birth, Malton, is his headstone

The nearest baptism I've found online is at Tadcaster in 1811 which is further away.

There are very few Fowlers with links to Malton in the 1851 census.

We've tried the IGI, FindMyPast and freereg and appreciate that North Yorks events online aren't particularly well covered.

Any hints, tips or suggestions that we could follow up would be appreciated.

Hi

Has this one been ruled out ? Kirby Misperton is about 7 miles from Malton, he may have fibbed about his father on his marriage cert.

John Fowler bp. 26 July 1813, mother Ann Fowler.

The John Fowler bn Tadcaster c1812 could be the man showing on the 1871/81 census in North Skirlaugh, Yorkshire so could be ruled out.

Ann FOWLER mar. John WILKS 13 November 1814 St Leonards New Malton.

If you're going to look at naming patterns, then this fits the bill as first born and eldest daughter was named Ann.

Will investigate this further.

Thank you so much.
