Just putting the 1871 family for Emma (as cannot find her in 1881)

1871 England Census   Emma Biggins
Age:    7  Estimated Birth Year about 1864  Relation:    Daughter
Father's Name   Charles Biggins
Mother's name   Mary Biggins
Female     born Normanby, Yorkshire, England
Normanby      Eston     South Bank   Yorkshire  England
   Guisborough     Kirkleatham
Charles Biggins    40
Mary Biggins    37
Mary I Biggins    14
Isave Biggins    10
Emma Biggins    7
Charles Biggins    5
Alice Biggins    3
Jane Shaw    74  mother-in-law widowed
John Nicholsen    27
William Ward    28
Joseph Oxon    28

If we cannot find her in 1891 we do not know if there were children who were born in the early years of the marriage, but did not survive.

Hello,
That's really what I meant. I wondered if Lydia had any ideas re 1891.
It all seems a bit vague.
Lydia,
You have the marriage certificate.
Do you have birth certificates for the children?
Is there anything else on the Nazareth House information besides death of father and abandonment by mother. Are the parents named?

Hi,
It is a little vague, because I have never been able to find anything about her beyond her marriage, she was a witness to her sister's marriage in 1884 and nothing else. I cannot find her on any census after 1871, she married in 1883. It would seem the John Carroll in  Es ton cemetery may now be the single gas stoker. I have not bought any certificates as yet, but I think that may be necessary. She is the only one in that large family that is not complete.
Regards, Lydia

So when she was a witness she would be married. It is all odd isn't it.
I couldn't find her birth record but eventually found the children registered as Bigness, I think.
A child's birth certificate may give you an address etc.

Workhouse records may provide info too.

I will email the archives and see if they hold the Broomland records and I will get in touch with the register office to see if the mother's maiden name is Biggins. Bigness seems to be the Victorian way of writing double ss
Her name was Carroll on her sister's marriage. If the burial is not her husband then it throws everything into doubt.
I think I will have to start again, maybe I should begin with John Carroll. Lydia

Yes you could try workhouse records.

Could you check the church marriage record again to check if John's father is recorded.
If not there is the civil marriage record.

Free BMD has a birth June quarter 1891 for James Carroll. Fingers crossed it's him, it would give you an address and occupation for John- hopefully.

There are a couple of John Carrolls around Middlesbrough but not showing as married.
It would be difficult to look for him when nothing is known.
