help with reading of profession (?)
« on: Thursday 11 December 14 13:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

On the bottom of the page, there is a James Broun married to Hellen Patoun. What does it say directly after his name?

Best regards

Hi

Think it says Cordiner - probably for  Cordwainer ( shoemaker)

Or maybe Gardiner - poor spelling of gardener!

But the cordwainer is more likely, as other 'G' s on the page are curlier, so it is more consistant with starting with a 'C'
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex

Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex

I take it this is Edinburgh, he presumably was a member of the Cordiners Guild, the records might be online.

Skoosh.
