McGarrigle Donegal
« on: Saturday 13 December 14 03:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello to all the McGarrigle family. This is my very first post and brand new to genealogy. :D. I don't know what I have got myself into.

I'm looking for the Baptism certificate of my G Grandfather John McGarrigle from Cashelard, Donegal, born 1861. I do not have the exact birth date only the year.
He immigrated to Australia  and married Mary Ann Morgan in Gympie, Queensland, Australia
He had two children : Michael - my G Father and Elizabeth who died at 5 yrs old.
He passed at the age of 29 in 1891 in the gold mines of Eidsvold, near Gympie...so sad.

John McGarrigle's father was Michael McGarrigle who married Ann McGloin. They farmed in Cashelard. Details of Michael are unknown.

If anyone has a copy of Michael McGarrigle's death certificate, that would be absolutely marvelous too.
My Mother is in her late 80's and it would be amazing if I could acquire a Baptismal certificate of John McGarrigle for her.
Cheryl

Hi,
PRONI (Public Record Office Northern Ireland) have two wills for McGarrigles of Cashelard. Unfortunately they do not have transcripts of the wills. See http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar/WillsSearch.aspx

You don’t say what denomination but I’ll assume RC. Cashelard is in the parish is Kilbarron. Transcripts of their RC baptisms are on-line on the rootsireland site for the years 1858 – 1879. For a sight of the original records, there are microfilm copies in the National Library, Dublin and in PRONI, Belfast. In both cases a personal visit is normally required to view them.

Thank you so very much for this information.
As you advised, I could not view the contents BUT I now have a date of death for Michael McGarrigle. I really appreciate your time, without this post it would have taken me months searching and being in a head spin. From Queensland, Australia, my very best wishes for a happy Christmas,
Regards,
Cheryl  :)

I really appreciate your kindness. I have now emailed Una McGarrigle with the contact details exactly as you suggested. In addition, I have now downloaded a copy of the history pdf. of County Donegal. You have opened up a whole new avenue of information and I thank you most sincerely.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
