Licensed Victuallers records - London
« on: Sunday 14 December 14 11:09 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have records to Licensed Victuallers records please?  Trying to track a very elusive publican!
His birth name was Phillip Hart but for some reason he was a publican under the name of Thomas Robinson.
I am hoping that when he got his licence he may have put some details in.
He was publican from 1899 until his death in 1918 at the Elgin Arms in Ladbroke Grove.
Thanks in advance.

Hi

Where did you get the information that Thomas Robinson was licensed victualler at the Elgin Arms from 1899 -1918 ?

This link

http://pubshistory.com/LondonPubs/Kensington/ElginArms.shtml

gives Thomas Darby in 1899 and the 1901 census agrees

and James Cashin in 1910, he is at the Elgin Hotel in 1911

Your Thomas Robinson is given as Licensed Victualler of the Elgin Arms in the 1915 Post Office directory. Have you found him in 1901 and 1911? He isn't living at the Elgin Arms.

The OP means that he was a publican from 1899 (Tavistock Arms, 118 Stibbington Street, St Pancras) and was at the Elgin Arms when he died in 1918.

In 1901 he was at the Weavers Arms, 26 Drysdale Street, Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, and in 1911 at the Hand and Flower, 617 Kings Road, Fulham.

My, what a coincidence! The person I mentioned above was also at the Hand & Flower, King's Road ca 1836 [after Jack Straw's Castle ca 1822 - post 1833 & before the Southampton Arms 41 Whittlebury Street, Euston Square 1841 & 1851].

Hi. According to my family history, my grandfather was the president of the LVA around 1915 -1920 era. Does anyone know how I can verify or not this, please? His name was William Osborn, and he was the licensee of the 7 Stars Pub/Webb's Wines, 111-113 High Street, Whitechapel, London. Thanks.
