Hartley's - Wellington
« on: Saturday 20 December 14 22:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I can see a Ann and Henry Hartley, both baptised in Wellington in 1852 and 1854 respectively to parents Henry and Ann Hartley.

In 1861, they are with a 'sister' Mary Ann Hartley in Wellington.  She claims to have been born in Much Wenlock around 1843.

In 1871, Henry is with a 'brother' George Hartley, born in Broseley, Shrops around 1840.

I cannot find any details of Mary Ann or George Hartley, nor of Henry and Ann Hartley.  I am wondering if Henry is the one who married Ann Payne in Pensnett in 1852 and that Mary Ann and George are associated with a previous relationship of Henry's.  That Henry was much older than Ann (born around 1816 in Alverley) and they had several children born in Shropshire and Kingswinford.

I have also not found the Alverley Henry on the 1851 census, which may help.

Can anyone help further with some information or thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

TB

Could you say how you got back to this family, so we know who is definite.

Also, you say who they are with in 1851, but you have them baptised in 1852 and 1854, so I am slightly confused.

Added:
OK, it is 1861 they are with the sister, born in Much Wenlock, 1843.

Thank-you Trish

Mmmm - now i have to work out whether this is the same Henry Hartley and he had two families or whether there are two separate families.

What i do know is that my Henry Hartley was married in 1852 to Ann Payne in Pensnett.  He claimed he was a bachelor, aged 28 at the time and son of Thomas Hartley.

I had an 1841 census but i will come back to that in a moment.

I had no 1851 census.

In 1861 Henry and Ann are in Stottesdon, Shrops.  He is an Ag Lab and claims to have been born about 1818 in Averley (listed as Harley).  They have children Sarah Ann (aged 5, born Staffs), Mary Jane (aged 3, born Harley, Shrops), Caroline and Ellen Eliza (aged 8 months, born Stottesdon, Shrops).  As such if the first listed child was born abt 1856, there is a gap of 4 years between the marriage and child.

In 1871, Henry and Ann are living in Kingswinford and have three more children Elizabeth, Henry and Ann, all born Kingswinford.  Henry is an Ag Lab and claims to have been born about 1816 in Alverley.

In 1881, Henry is still in Kingswinford.  His wife Ann has died by that time (in 1877 in Compton Kinver - or is that the other Ann!).  Henry is aged 61, so born abt 1819/1820 in Alverley, and is a Farm Waggoner.  There is another daughter Amy Selina on this census, aged 13, which is confusing as she was not on the last census, as well as reference to a servant.....

Henry dies in 1887 in Kingswinford.

So is the above the same Henry from Wellington.  The additional children's baptism's slipped in nicely making me wonder if it was although i have a different 1841 census for a Henry Hartley in Bobbington, Staffordshire (near Kingswinford) aged 22, not born in County - which i had thought might be him although the other 1841 census fits in with the other family........

It would be interesting to find the details of the 1841 marriage as that might help to differentiate if they are different people.

Does anyone have any other observations in this respect.  I otherwise think that my Henry is the son of Thomas and Jane Hartley of Alverley, born abt 1816 and baptised at Quatt in Dec 1816.

Please help me to clarify the above so i can be sure that i have the right family.

Thanks

TB

Thank-you Keyboard86

That seems conclusive.  So where is my Henry in 1851?
