Can anyone identify this church please?
« on: Thursday 01 January 15 21:08 GMT (UK) »
The attached photo shows my late father-in-law, Thomas Gilbert, and a colleague who were stonemasons employed by a company based in Uttoxeter.  I think the church will be in Staffordshire or possibly the adjoining parts of Shropshire or Cheshire.  I would very much like to know where it was taken.  Many thanks for having a look. :)

Thank you for the suggestion but I don't think it is.  Looking at Streetview I can't match it up.

I'm guessing
St Peter's Wolverhampton .Their graveyard is raised like that and I'm guessing it's the South side parallel to High Green.Although the area has changed quite a lot since the building of Wolverhampton college on the West side.

What a coincidence!  I opened up a copy of the Leek Post and Times and there was your picture!
Apparently the church is St Edwards in Leek.
The caption reads "the first two bells at the old church were installed in 1553.  The recently restored chiming mechanism can play up to 14 tunes on today's peal of 10 bells.  This picture shows one of them being returned after restoration just over 50 years ago"

Chris

That's amazing, thank you very much.

Could you possibly tell me the date of the paper - I'd like to get hold of a copy.

Thanks again

Godfrey
