Claridge family, Cumnor and North Hinksey burials
« on: Wednesday 07 January 15 17:08 GMT (UK) »
I have William Claridge christened at North Hinksey 11.5.1777. In 1841 he was at Swetmans Farm on Harcourt Hill. All his children were christened at North Hinksey. I have a death for 1843 Abingdon - December quarter and would like to find out if this is the correct one and where he was buried. This appears to be the only Claridge family in the area and I have found that they were mostly christened and married at North Hinksey. His wife Mary died 1849 Abingdon, December quarter. Any Claridge burials at North Hinksey would be of interest but I would be grateful for William's as it would be a good indication of where to look for his parents and grandparents. His father John was also christened here in 1733.

That's brilliant, it certainly looks to be the right one. Thank you so much for your help.

By the way, I have a photo of me as a hula hula girl for our street party in 1953.

Round about the same era then! Perhaps it was the fashion.  ;D

There is also a John Claridge buried in the same place on 27th March 1814 - possibly his father?

It could well be his father b. 1733 although he also had a brother John b. 1771.

I was dressed like that because there was a popular song at the time that went "she wears red feathers and a hula hula skirt".

Sorry, I forgot to add the age, 80, which is what made me think father.  :-[

There are other people with the surname Claridge buried there between 1762 and 1843, but no ages given for them.

That would be William's father then as he was christened in 1733.  I think the others buried there will be part of the same family. Thanks again for your help.
