Can anyone inform me whereabouts ELPHINSTONE TOWNHEAD is?  Near Biggar in Lanarkshire, but not on any map I can find.

My 2 x Gr Grand Uncle Andrew Black farmed it in the 1871 census, and his son James Black took over in the 1881 census
James changed occupations in the 1891 census to Wire Fencer Contractor, also 1901 census
By 1926 when he died he was described as a Blacksmith, by his son-in-law who registered the death

With your info, Sancti, there is:

The estate of Edmonston, which now holds blanch of the
Crown, consists of the farms of Wintermuir, Brownsbank,
Townhead, Greenend, Strathbogie, and Candybank, and also
the Mill and Mill lands, the Mansion-house and offices, the
Home parks, and the cottages and lands of Paul Yards, — the
whole extending to 1440 imperial acres, of which 984 are
arable, and the remainder consists of pasture, plantations, &c.
