Alfred Edward Astley
« on: Thursday 15 January 15 13:20 GMT (UK) »
The Astley family of Newtown, Montgomeryshire were enumerated on the 1901 census as follows: Annie Astley, head, widow (33). Fredk, son (15); Emily M, daughter (14); Alfred E (Edward) son (12); Charles R, son (10); John S, son (08); George, son (06) and Susy E, daughter (04).

The 1911 shows the family still at Newtown.  Annie is at home with son Thomas Frederick (26), son John Seymour (17), son George Cecil (15) and daughter Susan Ellen (13).  Annie’s daughter Emily M (May) marry Bert Williams in 1909, and living nearby.  Son Charles R (Raymond) enlisted 1909 and a soldier in the Welsh Regiment, stationed at Pembroke Dock.  The only one unaccounted is Alfred Edward.

The army papers of Sgt Charles Astley dated 1919; reveal his brother Alfred was living at 35 Whitefield Street, Ystrad Rhondda.  Could he have been there in 1911?

I know it’s inappropriate to ask for a look-up on the 1911 but as I have already located the family I’ll chance a rap on the knuckles and ask if someone could please help locate Alfred Edward Astley.

Hi
I should have mentioned I already have his army details off FindMyPast and that his name is remembered on the Newtown War Memorial.  However what I am trying to established is when did he come to South Wales.  He is not listed as being in the parental home in 1911.  Fingers crossed I'm hoping someone can locate him.

Hi Rosey
Thanks for taking interest; I have his army details and I am trying to learn where he was in 1911.

I would appreciate if someone could do a look-up on the 1911

Have you tried using "Artley" - might be quite helpful, if you are on Ancestry!
