Unfortunately Aberdeenshire Council in its great unwisdom decided many years ago to charge a large hourly fee just to look at the burial books in its care. I see that this has now been increased to the extortionate rate of £15 per hour, and the way it is worded on the web site may imply that if you get to the end of your hour and haven't found what you want, tough. This seems to me to be a very reasonable fee if the council staff are doing the looking up and transcribing, but I think it is excessive just for access to the books to do your own research.
I have no idea what they would charge for staff time to look for your McLeans.
