George Hayes in 1901
« on: Monday 19 January 15 18:52 GMT (UK) »
In 1901 George Hayes lived at  8 Club St., Sutton in Ashfield, Notts. I am looking at this on a photographic copy of the return, but am unable to read the birthplace of his daughter Mary, which appears to be in Derbyshire. Can anyone read this properly for me please?

Another point of interest on this return is that his daughter Emma and her husband Thomas Wass are living with George. In the same census they are recorded at 44 Portland St, Mansfield Woodhouse. Have other people come up with this type of anomaly?

Thanks in anticipation,  Mac

Hi,

Mary's birthplace...............   Durham, Seaham Harbour.

I've found people listed twice on the census; I guess the enumerator called on different days.

Thanks a lot Nanny Jan, I'd never have interpreted it as that.  it opens up a whole new area of interest.
