Baby Farmers Victorian baby killers
« on: Thursday 22 January 15 09:52 GMT (UK) »
My interest was piqued when I saw a BBC article about Jessie King the Scottish womam hanged for murder of her charges.

Then I read this http://www.capitalpunishmentuk.org/babyfarm.html seems we had 8 hanged in UK. 6 in England, 1 each in Wales and Scotland.

I came across this subject before whilst doing my NZ research and I suspect every country had them, have we done a thread on this subject?

Are any of us related to the victims or perpetrators?  :o

Hi,
No victims or perpetrators , but I couldn't help replying as I've always found Amelia Dyer's story totally fascinating . Her case makes very interesting reading if you want to research this type of subject, I recommend  reading up on her.

Kind Regards

This is a subject that interests me  :o   Honestly I'm not a ghoul - and I've no connection (that I know of) to any victim or perpetrator.
I have often wondered in the Jessie King case what happened to the mysterious Thomas/Michael Pearson , her partner, who gave evidence against her and denied all knowledge of the babies' deaths.
In NZ of course there was Minnie Dean - another Scottish lady - whose husband was also exonerated from any involvement.

I think all countries would have their equivalent sadly.

Looby :)

Amelia Elizabeth Dyer [2nd marriage to Wm Dyer] previously Thomas [1st m George Thomas] nee Hobley dau of Samuel and Sarah.

Two years after Dyer's execution, railway workers inspecting carriages at Newton Abbot, Devon found a parcel. Inside was a three-week-old girl, but though cold and wet, she was alive. The daughter of a widow, Jane Hill, the baby had been given to a Mrs. Stewart, for £12. She had picked up the baby at Plymouth—and apparently dumped her on the next train. It has been claimed that "Mrs. Stewart" was Polly, the daughter of Amelia Dyer.  :o :o :o

Anyhow back to Jessie King and what happened to partners, spouses and family post execution ..........  I must be bored today  ;D
