Alison Ida M Cruickshank of Eynsham. How and where did she die?
« on: Monday 26 January 15 18:13 GMT (UK) »
I have Alison on my tree. She was a daughter of Dr Robert Watson Cruickshank who was born in Aberdeen. (1870-1940). He was a doctor at 'The Shrubbery' in Eynsham. He had two daughters, Alison (christened at Eynsham in 1903) and Leslie. Alison, or 'Buffy', nicknamed on account of her ginger hair, died tragically when a young adult. Leslie later married a Mr Gillett. Dr Cruickshank's wife Ida Beatrice (Nee Smallhorn)was the daughter of Thomas Smallhorn who medical officer for the district for 37 years. She was also one time president of the WI at Eynsham.
The best information I have found came from
 http://www.gocruickshanks.com/cruickshanks-137/biographies/r-cruickshank-181

Alison may have gone to work as a domestic science teacher in Kenya aged 22. I have found a departure record for a Miss Alison Cruickshank with a correct birth year.
Can any one help with a place and date of death, cause of death or find what the 'M' was as a middle name. Thanks.

Are you thinking she died abroad?

Where was the family living because the lady on the passenger list gives a home address of Firbank, Loughton, Essex.

Her sister Lesley married in London in 1932 so no obvious Essex connection there.  Perhaps the Essex address was a school where she was previously either training or was a teacher?

To find her 3rd christian name - you would have to buy a copy of her birth cert

If she died in Kenya - it may be difficult to find any details

Looking at that Essex address in 1911 it comes up with 2 domestic servants.

13 rooms but I don't know where the rest of the household is!

Doesn't really help does it  :-\

Hi

She may have married, and died under her married name.

A very tenuous link to Alison being a teacher but if I have found the right Walter Wright he was a school master in 1911 Enfield Middlesex.  And in 1901 Cirencester Glos.
Wife Flora Mary Hall was from Oxford.  Marriage Witney 1909.

Thanks for the research and suggestions. I have contacted Eynsham History Society who did the original research for their 1998 publication, but that was a long time ago, but there's always a chance. Still hope someone can provide some info, though.
