The Commercial Hotel, Barnard Castle....
« on: Monday 26 January 15 21:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

A bit of a long shot but if I was going to get any success, I thought it would be from someone on Rootchat.

My x3 Great Grandfather, John Patterson (1854-1892) is shown as being the landlord of the Commercial Inn in the 1891 census.

His son, also John Patterson (1877 - ?) is shown as being the Inn Keeper at the same pub in 1901, 1911 and 1914 when the Government used the stables.

I'm looking for any help people might be able to offer in the way of local knowledge. Advice about researching the family further and possibly, whether anyone knows the pub or lives close enough to visit at some point. I would be delighted if there were photos of the Pattersons on one of the walls!

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Rich,

Thanks for this. I have now found articles relating to my x2 great grandfather who died in the first world war. This information really bought a tear to my eye, especially as we know nothing about him.

I did try emailing the manager of the Commercial hotel but haven't received any reply. I assumed that they wouldn't be particularly helpful if I called but I guess I've got nothing to lose!

Thanks for the help

Rich
