Caleb Dodson and Eliza Coster
« on: Friday 30 January 15 15:14 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the deaths of Caleb Dodson, born 1829 in Brinkworth, Wiltshire, and his first wife Eliza Coster, born in the same place in 1837. They married in 1857. In 1871 they were living in Reading.

Eliza died between 1871 and 1881. The 1881 Census records Caleb as a widower, still living in Reading. He remarried in 1884. In the 1911 Census he was aged 83.

I can find no record of the deaths of either Eliza or Caleb. Can anyone help please?

Thank you.
I can't link Caleb to West Bromwich, but according to FreeBMD Eliza and her son Frederick William both died there in the last quarter of 1878! He was only 19, so perhaps she went there to nurse him and caught the same illness? Who knows?

Why Caleb would go from Reading to West Bromwich in extreme old age and die there, goodness only knows! These mysteries are what keep me going!
Thanks for your help.

The death certs might be interesting, both from the point of view of cause of death ( for Eliza and son), and for address at death and informasnt for Caleb.
Were there other children ( other than tbe son who died) and if so did any of them settle in West Brom area?

Thanks again for your input.
I may well send for those certificates. There seem to have been a number of children, any one of whom might have been the first to go to West Bromwich. I haven't tracked them all down yet. It all takes a long time, but I won't give up.
Cheers, Molly

There's about 4 burials of dodson in the west bromwich christ church records on free reg. These seem to come from the greets green area of west brom which is 5 or 10 mins up the round.Christ church graveyard was opposite where i live. The graveyard remains were removed years ago. I believe there was a plaque places at all saints church west bromwich to state effect remains were removed.I don't know whether remains were cremated. So don't look or ask for a grave if you find its christ church just the parish entry. There's flats on top and the job centre behind. Not saying they are the same lot of dodsons but it may help.

Thank you for that.
I can't get FreeReg to find them at all. Do you have their full names or dates of burial?
If not, don't worry, thanks anyway.

on the search select staffordshire on county and west bromwich for the town. Just put the surname in, although yours don't come up , it may be that they have n't been transcribed yet. There's several places in west brom and even tipton they could haave been buried. I only tried the burials
