1861 Census for Peterborough - Look Up Please
« on: Monday 04 July 05 21:58 BST (UK) »
Attention Felecity or anyone who has access to the 1861 census for Peterborough, Northamptonshire.
I would appreciate very much a look up for Elizabeth Luff at Peterborough.  Elizabeth died September quarter of 1866 at Peterboroughy, aged 76 years.  Was she living at Peterborough at the time of the 1861 census?  Elizabeth married George Luff at Stamford, Lincs. in 1849 and was supposedly living in Oakham, Rutland in that year.  I do not know if George was dead by 1861.
regards, Aurora.

Hi Aurora
The only one in that area is in Glinton, Northamptonshire, but Glinton is now part of Peterborough (its that close!)even in 1861 its reg district was P'boro

Dear Anne
Thank you so much for replying to my query.  I will have to further investigate to find out if this Elizabeth is the person I am looking for.  Possibly not, because Elizabeth was the second wife of my g.g. grandfather, George Luff. She was a widow, Elizabeth Hibbins nee Spurr when she was married to George at Stamford in 1849, so any Luff grandchildren, would be step-grandchildren.  I have not found two of George's sons, James Luff, born 1813 and George Jnr. born 1827, so maybe William Luff, aged 17 in 1861, belongs to James?  As far as I know, my Elizabeth was born in Stamford, Lincs, so I will have to find out how close Woolsthorpe is to Stamford.  The information you have given me hopefully will give me leads to either confirm or eliminate this Elizabeth. Thanks again, from Aurora.

Hi Aurora
I've just had a look and Woolsthorpe is Grantham not Stamford, so maybe it isn't the correct person.
I'll go back and see if I can find another likely candidate

Hi Anne & Aurora,

Don't know if you're aware, but there are two Woolsthorpes - one is about 4 miles west of Grantham as the crow flies, and the other is about 6 miles south of Grantham, just off the A1, between Grantham and Stamford.

Regards, Emma ;)
