Robert Band --- Kembach to Llangollen
« on: Monday 02 February 15 17:18 GMT (UK) »
I know there are quite a few people interested in Robert Band and his family and I have found a lot about him, but there is one thing that puzzles me!!
Robert Band was born in Kemback Fife in 1823. In 1841 he was working in the area but by 1851 he was working as a labourer at Llantysillio Hall near Llangollen some 320 miles from Kembach!!!!!

This seems to be a very long way at that time to travel to find work, even though railways were beginning to spread across the country.

He was obviously a man who wasn't afraid of travelling, as within a couple of years he had met a local young lady, gone to Greenock to marry and sailed to Australia from Liverpool on the record breaking first Australian journey of the Marco Polo in 1853.
Any ideas??????

Do you mean this one?

Listed as a hand loom weaver.
If so isn't he likely to be this chap in 1851 rather than the Robert Band in Wales?

Hi Jim
Sorry for the delay in replying. I have spent 3 days trying to find the details of the Robert Band, I queried, in the 1841 census. It is 3 or 4 years since I last looked at this family and I hadn't made a note of where I had got the details from!!!!!!!!!
I have now found that source which I think!!!! is the Robert Band that I'm interested in.
He is living in the house of William Buddo in the parish of Cameron in Fife. He is listed as Robt. Band aged 15, which has presumably been rounded down.

There is an unsubstantiated note I received those years ago that Robert had been a soldier. This must have been before 1851 as we know most of his life story after that. I suppose he could have been stationed in North Wales and then stayed there after he had finished his service.
