1805 marriage shoreditch london
« on: Monday 02 February 15 19:54 GMT (UK) »
From the family bible I have details of a marriage between THOMAS SIMS and SARAH OLIVER 21st January 1805

I wondered if anyone is able to find the details of the marriage or the band's ?
I have looked on familiarity.org but cannot find anything.

I am hoping it will name the bride's father as I am unable to trace Sarah Oliver,s family

The parish record shows her as Holloway, not Oliver

Thomas Sims
Sarah Holloway
21 Jan 1805
St Leonard, Shoreditch Hackney

He signed, she made her mark. No mention of fathers I'm afraid.

Hi kath

The only one that's close is Thomas Sims to Sarah Holloway 21 January 1805 at St Leonards Shoreditch,

Thomas Sims bachelor of this parish and Sarah Holloway spinster of this parish married after banns

Thomas signed but Sarah left her mark.

The witnesses were Samuel Austin & George Limming (George's name appears all over the register, he must be the "parish professional witness")

Now the interesting part, the entry has been crossed through and a note added

"Names wrong ? refused"

Maybe someone else can have a go at deciphering it

Marriages pre 1837 do not record fathers names unless they act as witnesses and you know who they are.

Thank you. Now I am puzzled was she a Oliver or a Holloway ?

Oliver was used as a middle name for some of their children but how on earth did Oliver become Holloway or vis versa ?

I have another question
Sarah was only 19 when she married so she would need parental consent, would this have been recorded ?

I wonder if that is why it is crossed out? The vicar thought she said her name was Holloway when infact it was Oliver? The one below which took place on the same day is scribbled out as well - doesn't look as if the vicar was having a very good day!!

Not recorded on the parish record.

How do you know that she was only 19?

There is this baptism in the right place, but slightly earier than 1786
