Appreciate a second opinion
« on: Saturday 07 February 15 13:54 GMT (UK) »
I am starting to doubt a deduction I have made and would appreciate a second opinion.  If any chatters are able to.

John Wardle married Margaret Wardle in 1838 in Whitwick Leics.  (I have certificate)
John is given as "of age" and father Jonathan Wardle (Collier)

1851 I have 2 entries
Whitwick with wife and 4 children [piece 2084 / page 12]
Basford with Father (wid) and 2 siblings, recorded as married, but no wife shown [piece 2127 /  folio 176 / page 25]

1841 I have him with wife and first born, in Whitwick, John born out of county, although wife is down as Frances [piece 596 / folio 51 / page 16]

From this I have found a baptism for John Wardle on familysearch at Greasley 21 Apr 1817 to give his parents as Jonathan and Phillis (believe Phyllis Carlin).

Note I do have a public tree on ancestry.

many thanks,
Spark

Hi Spark.... :)

I was going to say Jonathan married as Wardley to Phyllis Carlin and the Notts FHS has the children's baptisms if you would like them, John's in 1817 gives his abode as Brinsley which fits.

It does happen that people are mentioned in two places on census night..... I looked on the NottsFHS burials for Phyllis but she is not on there, but at a guess she died in Basford R/D in 1851... and wondered if that was why John Wardle is with his father?

But it appears that Phyllis was buried in Nottingham General Cemetery the day the census was taken.

Then I found this link that explains in more detail than I can.... and the burial internment certificate on there too! With thanks to Bill Wardle and the contributors for the webpages.  :-*
