John Carter marriage - around 1750, possibly Ashwell, Baldock
« on: Tuesday 10 February 15 18:09 GMT (UK) »
Please could I request a look up for the marriage of John Carter to Mary around 1750?

John Carter was a butcher in Ashwell in 1762 (Register of Duties Paid for Apprentices' Indentures), and all their children were born in Ashwell (1750 - 1763). John was born in Ashwell in 1727.

Mary possibly came from elsewhere, of course?

I would love to find Mary's maiden name. There is a possibility that it's Fordham, as one of their grandchildren had this as a middle name.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Ray,

Thank you for your quick response!

I had Mary's remarriage to John Blanchet, and her two children through this marriage, and had also confirmed John's mother's remarriage to Jeremiah Godfrey in 1740 (having previously married John's father, John Carter in 1719). Thank you anyway!

I'd also researched the surnames of Boffey and Seagrove on hertsdirect.org in case these might have had a connection with Mary, having downloaded John Carter's will.

Thank you so much for all your efforts in trying to help me!

Do you think there may be a record somewhere of John Carter's marriage to Mary?

Kind regards, Gill

Hi

"Do you think there may be a record somewhere of John Carter's marriage to Mary?"

Documents are being added ( and corrected ) to "libraries" [ online or other ] all the time.
One reason why "we" should revisit dead-ends occasionally.

So my answer would be "yes"

 :)

Ashwell is very close to Cambridgeshire border, may be worth looking in Cambs records.

FindMyPast has a John Carter marrying Mary Templer in Steeple Morden (village close to Ashwell) in 1750. From Boyd's index, so only year. May be worth considering.
