Joseph Lodge born 1850
« on: Tuesday 17 February 15 13:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Joseph Lodge (born as Joe Lodge in Sheffield, England 1850) - was the son of William Marriott Lodge.

His 2nd wife was Helena Mary Townshend - born in Killoe, Co. Cork in Ireland circa 1864.

Helen and her 3 children are visiting her family in Ireland in the 1901 census.

She is in England in 1911, but her husband Joseph is visiting her family in Ireland in 1911.

Their son Ronald Edward Somerville Lodge was killed in WWI in 1915.

The CWGC lists Joseph as deceased.

I don't know if that would be from 1915 or if those details were added years later.

I can't find a death for Joseph in England or Ireland with an age that matches.

Maybe he travelled further abroad.

Can anybody find his death (probably between 1911 and 1915)?

Also - I can't find his son in the 1911 census in England or Ireland.

Can anybody locate Ronald?

Thanks

Darin.

Hi again

I have just found a joseph Lodge that died in Romford Essex in 1922 aged 74 (2 years older than my Joseph).

However, he is buried in Newham, West Ham Cemetery - the same cemetery as his first wife Emily Lodge was buried in in 1890.

Does anybody have any details from the 1922 burial so that I can determine if it is my Joseph?

Also, if the CWGC lists him as a deceased father for the 1915 war death of his son, could those details have been written as late as 1922?

Thanks

Darin.

It is likely that the information about his father being deceased was written when the memorial was erected.
The memorial was designed by Sir Herbert Baker with sculpture by Charles Wheeler. It was unveiled by Sir Nevil Macready on 4 August 1930.
