Rainhill Asylum Research
« on: Sunday 22 February 15 11:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone, please forgive me if this is a stupid question but I'm new to all this. I'm researching my family tree and I think I have found a relative who may have been admitted to Rainhill Asylum in 1860. How would I find detailed records on his admission details etc? Thanks in advance.

Hi and thank you so much for your reply. So, do I contact the relevant archive office to ask them if they hold any records? Sorry I don't know how it works.

Sorry, I am as bereft of knowledge as you are about this one, but if you click on the link.. I think that it is the Merseyside records office which would hold the Admission records of 1851 - 1969.  I would try the  following links Email: archives@liverpool.gov.uk
Website: http://www.liverpool.gov.uk/archivesExternal link - opens in a new window

Good luck

Hi, I went a few years ago to Liverpool Library to assist a friend with her research about her ancestor who was in Rainhill, we ordered the admissions book and managed to find records about why he was discharged and his eventually his death.  the staff were most helpful x
