Henry Jackson
« on: Tuesday 24 February 15 13:13 GMT (UK) »
I have been given a newspaper article headed "Honoured By Queen Victoria" Famous Croydon Cornetist Dead. I  believe he may be the father of a Henry Jackson, born in Croydon in 1876. Young Henry came to South Australia before 1900.
The newspaper has no name or date. I am trying to get more information about Henry the musician and who his wife may have been.

First, what date does this Henry the musician die? And where?

ANd who are "young" Henry's parents from his birth cert? WHat occupation did his father (assuming he was a Henry) give?
Have you found the family on 1881/1891 censuses - again is Dad described as a musician?

Henry J Jackson jnr is 14 in 1891, so right sort of age, as he would not have had his birthday that year.

Looks like Henry J Snr. was down as a bricklayer in 1881 and 1901 so not a full-time musician

There is a death of a Henry J Jackson in 1936 Croydon, b.1855

The  obit for my Henry says his father was a well known contractor which may explain the bricklaying.
He was 82 on his death which lines up with an 1855 birth and a 1936 death. The other suggestion from the newspaper was that his musical fame was pre 1900! Thanks for all your help.
