Help with reading German writing in a couple of records please

Hi all,

I'd like help with just a few words, please. In the attached record I'm having difficultly reading the street name in which the family lived. I think it reads 'Cauer Straße' even though the first letter is different from the C in Charlottenburg. Does the record say this is where Gustav Hermann was born?

In the bottom right-hand corner his death place is given but I can't work out what the second word reads.

I read Lauerstrasse, but I don't know if a street with this name exists.

Do you know the online adress books (city directories) of Berlin?

Thanks for your help, Svenja. I did a Google search for Lauerstrasse in Charlottenburg but no street of that name comes up in the borough, unfortunately.

The address books are fantastic. I have looked through some of them before but found nothing. I'll see what more searching will find.

Hi Chris,

there is no Hoppe and no Kloss living at Cauerstraße 23 in the adress book 1896 of Charlottenburg (including updates) - he might have rented a part of the flat with a sub contract.

There is Google streetview available.

Thanks again, Rudolf. You've been a great help. I think they must have sub contracted on many occasions. I wonder if that is the original building?

I have a couple of death certificates which include the words 'Vorstehend 18 druckworte gestrichen'. Could you tell me what the significance of this sentence is, please?

Also, do these records ever include the cause of death?

up to now I didn't check streetview.

Vorstehend 18 druckworte gestrichen = 18 words of the printed certificate have to be cancelled.

These records might include the cause of death, but in a lot of cases it is missing.
Especially in cases, where you are very interested. (Murphy's Law)

That is a shame. They died so young and it would've been interesting to find out why.

I see that the '18 druckworte gestrichen' refers to the crossed out words in the document.

The birth records for Berlin only go up to 1899 on Ancestry, so I would assume I'd need to contact Standesamt Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf  to receive records for the remaining children of Julius and Emilie Hoppe. I've done this before for their daughter (my great grandmother's) birth record but they sent me a typed, shortened version. How would I go about asking for the full, original handwritten records like those I have posted?
