Wed 24 June, 12pm - 1pmHillsborough Cemetery. Learn about Hillsborough Cemetery's history, inhabitants and user-friendly database.
Since opening in 1916, there has been 17,500 burials at Hillsborough Cemetery. After some research, Peter Nash decided to centralise the sexton's records, Monumental Inscriptions and burial records on one database.
You are invited to come along for a guided tour of this beautifully situated cemetery and meet some of the characters buried there. Perhaps Peter can convince you to carry out the same exercise on other cementeries - it is much needed.

Waikato Immigration Scheme with Sarah Mathieson
Wed 8 July, 12pm - 1pmIt has been 150 years since ships arrived in New Zealand bringing immigrants for the Waikato Immigration Scheme; a government scheme to populate the North Island with immigrants recruited in Britain, Ireland and South Africa.
Many of these records have survived, detailing the occupations of the immigrants, the ships that bought them to New Zealand and the land grants they received, offering some insight into the hardships they faced.
Join Sarah Mathieson from Archives New Zealand as she discusses how these records can be used for family history research.
