John MEAKIN, Born 19/01/1837
« on: Thursday 12 March 15 20:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

John MEAKIN was born on 19/01/1837 in Beggarlee  ???, Nottinghamshire, his parents being John and Elizabeth.......details courtesy of FamilySearch.

I can find no other references to him in the Census, BDM Indexes, or Public Member Trees.   Possibly I have a case of "name blindness" not the "colour blindness" of Mr. Farage!!

Any help please.

Have you got him at all after that, or could we be looking for his death as a baby?

Apologies groom,

I should have added but, besides my "name blindness" "forgetfulness" is another big problem, that he is alive and kicking on 27/08/1856 according to the TNA Reference: PCOM 3/37/3922, Prisoner Licences.

He was not born on 19 Jan 1837. That is the date of baptism, he was born on 3 May 1829.

It is difficult to read but the 1851 census suggests he was born in Codnor, Derbyshire. At that time his family was in Greasley, Nottinghamshire (where Beggarlee was located).

In 1841 try searching under the name Meaking.

He could not have been born on 03/05/1829, because he would have been 22 when he entered Parkhurst Prison, when in fact he was 14.   So with my simple mathematics I accepted the Baptismal Date as being his Birth Date.   And that would have been verified by a report in the Nottinghamshire Guardian dated 09/01/1851 which stated that "John Meakin, aged 14"

The 1861 census clearly shows his birthplace is Codnor, Derbyshire not Coorus, but anyway it is definitely not the person BAC3 is looking for.

There is a 14 year old "J M", with place of birth unknown, at Parkhurst Junior Prison in 1851. This could possibly be him.

BAC3, what is your John's birthplace and age on other records, apart from the newspaper record in 1851? And details about his marriage? Death?

From what I understand from the first post, BAC3 doesn't have any more details

It really depends which John Meakin we are now looking for, the one we've found on the baptism and censuses or the one sent to prison. They are obviously two different people.
