Rose Dorothy Gillick
« on: Friday 13 March 15 02:38 GMT (UK) »
Seeking information on the above who was born at Cradock, South Australia on 29 September 1886, migrated to USA in 1920. She subsequently became a US citizen but retired to South Australia in 1955. She apparently lived with her sisters at 41 High St, Glenelg. I am very anxious to find a record of her death or burial in Australia. Incidentally she was one of the "Anzac Girls" and nursed with the Australian Army in Egypt, France & England.

I am confused.   I thought she left Australia in 1956 ......

From one of those threads that Merlin kindly linked....

I'm trying to trace the death of the above who was born in South Australia and subsequently migrated to USA and became a US citizen. She returned to Australia in 1955 to live permanently but subsequently left on 13 June 1956 on board the "Pioneer Gem" ex Sydney.

Can anyone help with the destination of the Pioneer Gem (presumably the USA) but any information would be helpfull.

Yes, she left Australia

I think you may find that "permanent" in respect of visiting Australia referred to staying more than twelve months, however I am relying on a comment I overhead many years ago.

Looking more closely at the threads linked by Merlin.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=442983.0      [ March  2010]

Initially you seem to doubt the findings of Cando regarding this woman.
Cando tells you she left the Commonwealth in 1956 and her death is not registered in SA to 1972.
She also suggests you contact  the Catholic Archives and gives a link.

On this thread a lot of detail is given about Rose in USA. And it repeats the departure information given by Cando

In this thread you are requiring information about the destination of the ship Rose left the Commonwealth on.

You do not give much acknowledgement to the information on any of these threads.  It seems clear to me the death of Rose Dorothy GILLICK  took place not in Australia.
