Barnbrough Street, Conisbrough 1926
« on: Friday 13 March 15 18:18 GMT (UK) »
HI, is anyone able to tell me the precise location of the above today please?

I assume it has made way for something more modern but would love to take my husband to as exact a place as I can on a trip to Doncaster in the future.

Thanks, Pheno

Could it be Barmbrough Street? If so, it's in Denaby Main (still part of Conisbrough Urban District).

Have a look at the map at http://maps.nls.uk/view/100949669 (one of the English 6" maps put online by the National Library of Scotland), and about halfway along the top edge, it's the first road south of and parallel to Doncaster Road.

Comparing it with Google maps and street view, there's no sign of the old houses there now - I'll leave you to judge whether that's a good or a bad thing.

Thanks very much Arthur.  Hopefully I can take my bearings from All Saints Church which I hope is still there and at least find the locale if not the road.

Thanks, Pheno

My Grandfather was born at no. 69 Barmbrough street, its actually in Denaby just next door to Conisbrough. He was born in 1907. My mother was born in 1936 and the were residing there still then.  Did you ever get there for a visit, although the properties are long gone I believe.

Yes masymas we did get there (co-coinciding with a Doncaster Rovers home game who my husband still supports).  Yes a lot changed over the years and no the property no longer there.  We had our lunch in the local pub in Denaby and have since read about the place in the book 'Black Diamonds'.

Thanks for the maps stan, had forgotten you could do this with the nls.

Am very sorry Tomkin and my humble apologies and generous thanks.

I don't generally ignore people so can only assume that, as your response came in a month after the previous I must have overlooked it.  Going back to the post today following the notifications I didn't even look back as assumed I had dealt with all those from 4 years ago.

Anyway, nothing personal and thank you very much.
