Orton on the Hill Parish Records - JOHN LEA
« on: Saturday 14 March 15 16:19 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a baptism for John Lea around 1756. He married Elizabeth Leedham in 1781 in Rosliston (Derbys) and all their children were baptised there. One of the witnesses to that marriage was a Measom Lea who may be John's brother - Measom (Measham) married, baptised children and was buried in Orton on the Hill.

John died in 1830 aged 74 and was buried in Rosliston, the register states of Twycross.

I cannot find a baptism in Twycross or Rosliston for John but I have found a baptism in Shenton in 1751 parents Francis and Sarah; that doesn't fit well with his age on burial, but it's another possibility to check out.

If anyone can check the Orton PRs for John that would be really great.

Any help much appreciated

Hi,

I can tell you that the John Lea baptised in Shenton is definitely not your John Lea, since he was buried not long afterwards (Francis and Sarah were my 5x great grandparents). Interestingly, I have found no direct link between Shenton Leas and those from Orton, which is a bit surprising because most of the Leas in this area of west Leicestershire are connected.

Many thanks Dave, I will do more hunting around - at least the Shenton one can be ruled out.
